Forsell Maskin
Flexible Machine Design with IronCAD
Forsell Maskin develops and manufactures custom machines, production equipment, and automation solutions. Using IronCAD, the company moves quickly from initial concept to a complete machine, including technical documentation.
About Forsell Maskin
Forsell Maskin, based in Skellefteå, Sweden, supports customers throughout the entire process—from concept and engineering to production, documentation, and CE marking.
In over 25 years, the company has developed more than 250 machine projects, both large and small. Thanks to its own machinery, Forsell Maskin is also able to manufacture many solutions in-house.

The Challenge
In custom machine building, the final solution is often not yet determined at the outset.
Forsell Maskin must be able to quickly develop new ideas, explore different options, and continue to adapt to changing customer needs throughout a project.
To do this, it is important that:
- concepts can be quickly modeled in 3D;
- changes can be easily implemented;
- large assemblies remain easy to navigate;
- engineering time—and thus project costs—are minimized.
The Solution: IronCAD
Forsell Maskin has been using IronCAD for years for 3D design and technical documentation.
With IronCAD’s direct workflow, an engineer can quickly create an initial machine concept and then develop it further step by step.
To do this, Forsell Maskin uses, among other things:
- drag-and-drop from catalogs;
- the TriBall for positioning and copying;
- direct handles for dimension changes;
- the structure tree for parts and assemblies.
The Result
IronCAD helps Forsell Maskin move more quickly from an initial idea to a machine ready for production. Because the design can be freely modified, it is not necessary to define every possible change in advance.
Quickly Develop Concepts
New machine ideas are immediately explored in 3D.
Flexible changes
Changes can also be incorporated later in the project
More Efficient Documentation
3D models form the basis for production and detailed drawings.
“I can model a complex machine in just a few hours and still accommodate unexpected changes later in the project.”

From Concept to Production
Forsell Maskin uses IronCAD from the initial idea through to the technical design of a machine.
During the concept phase, different solutions can be quickly explored and adjusted in 3D. Components can be easily moved or modified without having to rebuild the entire design from scratch.
Forsell Maskin then creates the necessary production and detail drawings from the same 3D model. Changes can also be incorporated into the drawings and bills of materials.
“The key advantage of IronCAD is that I can freely and directly modify models at both the detail level and the assembly level. That’s essential for working efficiently on concepts and product development.”
Easy Sharing and Collaboration
The 3D model also plays an important role in communication with customers and suppliers.
With IronCAD Web Viewer, Forsell Maskin can share designs via a web browser. This allows stakeholders to view and rotate a machine without needing CAD software themselves.
This combination of flexible design, technical documentation, and easy collaboration helps Forsell Maskin efficiently move from customer request to completed machine.
